The Rise of Modern Powerlifting - Markos Markopoulos

The Sitting in the Desert Podcast is one I had not heard of until I saw they were interviewing Markos Markopoulos. I wanted to listen in to hear about the rise of the sport and the creation of the GPC powerlifting federation as well as the creation and growth of Pro Raw.

For me the interests outlined above had similaritites with goals we are working in the sport of Strongman in Australia right now. The sport is growing fast, with about 25 competitions in 2014 then over 60 competitions in Australia in 2015 with even more and larger competitions this year. Also the creation of two strongman sports national bodies near the end of 2015 with the Arnold Strongman Australia and the Australian Strongman Alliance (Of which I am also a part of). Also the growth of a unique sport specific event with The Static Monsters going from a single event last year to a multiple event sport, happening on the same day, all around the world.

Markos himself also goes on to talk about a couple of people that have done a lot to grow and support the sport including Scott Wasson of PTC Brisbane, Steve Harris of Harris Stability Systems (a big supporter of our Strongman events and athletes as well) as well as Emad Nayef and Nathan Jones.
