8am to 12pm at Coco’s Gym Gold Coast - Contact: Jean-Stephen Coraboeuf (Coco) - You are welcome to come in and check out the equipment the day before the contest as well.
10am to 11am at PTC Brisbane - Contact: Marc Wells
Weigh in at the Competition on the day
8:00am to 9:00am - Contact: Coco
No weigh ins will be conducted outside of those times.
If you don’t make weight, you are welcome to compete in the next division up.
When you arrive at the Quality Hotel Mermaid Waters, please have the following information ready:
Give the person checking you in your name and division. Then you will receive your competition shirt, this is to be worn for all events. You are welcome to use your own shirt or go shirtless for the Atlas Stone event.
Set yourself up for the viking press heights. For those new to the Viking Press, your height will be based on the middle axis point being as close to or slightly below shoulder height as possible.
Events and Rules for those events:
As with every strongman event there are different ways to approach and complete the events. The below rules are the guidelines to how the events will be run and scored. On the day if event implements change or something becomes apparent that we haven’t thought of, we will update the event rules to suit the conditions. If you believe there is a problem with an event or handling of an event, please bring it to the attention of Coco or Chad.
Farmers Walk :
– 60 seconds to complete the event
– Competitor to start with their hands on the handles of the implements with the implements in complete contact with the ground
- No drops are allowed
– Both farmers implements have to be completely across the line before the timer will stop
– Competitors will be judged on the amount of distance covered. Distance is measured from back of the rearmost implement to the start line.
– Both implements must be totally across the start line to score any points
– no straps allowed, no tacky allowed
– sleeves and wraps are allowed
Max Axle Overhead:
- All womens classes minimum 30kgs
- Mens u80 and U90 minimum 60kgs
- Mens u105 and open minimum 92kgs
- Mens u90 and 105 will be a fixed wheel/Apollon style axle.
- Competitor will have three attempts at weights that they nominate. Weights have to be in multiples of 2.5kgs eg: 20kgs, 22.5kgs, 25kgs etc.
– Competitors to start with their hands on the implement, implement in full contact with the ground
– Competitor will have 60 for each attempt
– Axle must be controlled back to the ground. (No Throwing of the implement).
– Any dropped lift will result in a failed lift and the rep will not count.
– If no complete reps are counted, the competitor will scores no points for the event.
– If the competitor successfully locks out a rep just before the buzzer but then drops the implement in an uncontrolled way, the rep will not count.
– Belts are allowed, an under belt and an over belt is allowed. Two belts, one above the other on the torso (equivalent to a stepped setup), is not allowed. A loop in the belt is not allowed.
– The lifter is allowed to rest the implement on the belt and use the belt as a part of the clean if they choose.
– chalk is allowed
– tacky is not allowed
– wraps and sleeves are allowed, including “equipped” elbow sleeves
Axle Deadlift for Repetitions:
– No Sumo stance allowed. Hands must be outside the knees for the lift.
– Straps allowed, figure 8 straps also allowed.
– Deadlift suits are allowed.
– No Tacky allowed.
– If the competitor fails to make any lifts, they will score zero points for the event.
- No dropping of the implement in between lifts. If you drop the implement as opposed to controlling it to the ground, the repetition will not be counted, including the final lift even if the timer has stopped.
Viking Press:
- Repetitions and time will start when the implement leaves the ground.
- Time finishes when the competitor drops the implement to the ground.
- Competitor will be allowed to keep going if the weight tree touches the ground during a the drop of a push.
- No double knee movements will be allowed, ie: no jerking. The viking press is a test of overhead strength, not a test of overhead squat strength.
- Each repetition will have to come back down to below the competitors ears for the repetition to count. No additional repetitions will be allowed if the implement does not return to below the ear in between each rep.
- A complete repetition will be one that starts from below the ear and is completed with knees, hips and elbows straightened. The judge will have a down call for you to start your next repetition.
- Competitor will be using the inside “Neutral Grip” handles and will be facing the implement.
Atlas Stone to Shoulder:
- No bounced reps will be counted: IE: dropping the stone from the shoulder, having it bounce up to the knees, be caught and then continuing with the next rep. The stone must start from the ground.
– Tacky is allowed
- Chalk is allowed ( I recommend you bring a towel to “dust” the stone of any chalk if you want to use Tacky though)
– competitor may start with hands on the stone, but stone must be in contact with the ground.
– time will be 60 seconds from when whistle is blown.
– Competitor must complete one full rep to score any points
- To judge the repetition, two hands can be in contact with the stone still but control must be shown with a stable stone above the nipple and armpit crease and on the shoulder.
Judges Decision is final.
Please respect the equipment.
Event Briefing will be at 9:30am
You are welcome to bring your own chairs and Awnings to set up in and watch from. We will have a designated area for you to set these up in and watch the competition from.
There will be a hose supplied for your needs to clean up after the stone event. Please be sure to not leave a mess and to put your tape and any rubbish from the day into the bins provided.
Many hands make light work, any people that are available to help with the cleaning up and packing up after the event will be very much appreciated.
Scorekeeping and Judging:
We will do our best to have scores read out over the loudspeaker when possible. Please let the Judges and Referees do their thing as their first priority and try not to bother them chasing down your individual times and scores.

Scores will be totalled and we will all meet in the bar inside the Quality Hotel Mermaid Waters. Please come in, buy yourself a drink and cheer on those who have won their own events.
