Australia’s Most Powerful Man and Woman 2015 - Results

This year the NSW Strongest Man ad Woman was expanded to encompass all of Australia and became the “Australia’s most Powerful man and Woman 2015.” The offerings were anyone that placed first in their division would get an invite to compete in the Arnolds USA in 2016. There were also spots available for the winners of the under 90’s and the under 105’s to compete in the Worlds Strongest Man event in Norway in NOvember of this year in those classes for first and second place, along with being crowned Australida’s Most Powerful Man.

Our team from Strongman Gold Coast/Coco’s Gym had five competitors go along, Alex Thompson (Under 90 then 105’s), Andrew Absalom (under 80’s), Andrew Bakos (under 105’s), Jason Holmes (Masters) and Jean-Stephen Coraboeuf aka Coco (under 105’s). The had seven events to compete in over 2 days, the first day offered Frame Carry, Log lift for reps in 60 seconds, Max Axle deadlift and Conans Wheel. Day 1 went overtime slightly and the 105’s had to do their conans wheel on day 2. Day 2 events were Shot Put, Yoke Walk, and Atlas Stones.

Our crew did incredibly well overall, one competitor, Andrew Bakos, having to compete in a strongman comp for the very first time and only 3 months of training under his belt. Alex Thompson had it very tough, having not made the weight cut for the under 90’s he stepped up to compete in the under 105’s. Jason Holmes and Andrew Absolom are both relatively new to the sport as well having a few novice events under their belt but both with only about 9 months experience in training for the sport. Their final places after the 3 days were:

Andrew Absolom - 5th (out of five) under 80’s. Andrew had it tough after taring open his hand on the very first event of the first day, he still fought through to finish all events.

Andrew Bakos - 6th (out of 20) in the under 105’s. Andrew managed to come third in frame carry and tie for second in the conans wheel.

Alex Thompson - 18th (out of 20) in the under 105’s. Tied for third in the Conans Wheel, amazing effort!

Jason Holmes - 4th (by only half a point out of 5 competitors) in the masters (also the oldest and smallest in the field). Jason pulled out a couple of second places during the event, sadly he was let down by a zero in the log lift, this would have given him third overall!

Coco - 1st (out of 20) in the under 105’s (also 3 event wins out of 6, the pinnacle being a 370kg axle deadlift to take the win in that event)

Well done to the crew and very well done to all the other competitors that made the trek to Del Rio Resort, it looked like and awesome weekend!
